I am waiting for the dawning of the bright and blessed day

Here's a great old hymn we sang at Church this evening. I didn't know it very well if at all, but it's a really good one!!
I am waiting for the dawning
Of the bright and blessèd day,
When the darksome night of sorrow
Shall have vanished far away—
When for ever with the Saviour,
Far beyond this vale of tears,
I shall swell the song of worship
Through the everlasting years.
I am looking at the brightness—
See, it shineth from afar—
Of the clear and joyous beaming
Of the Bright and Morning Star.
Through the dark gray mist of morning
Do I see its glorious light;
Then away with every shadow
Of this sad and weary night.
I am waiting for the coming
Of the Lord who died for me;
Oh, His words have thrilled my spirit,
I will come again for thee.
I can almost hear His footfall,
On the threshold of the door,
And my heart, my heart is longing,
To be with Him evermore.

Another poem.

A poem I found in Traveling toward Sunrise:

She had a doubt, and buried it before the day was old;
She did not tell it to a friend - what if his love grew cold?
She buried it and turned to Christ. "Lord, Thou hast died for me-
Increase my faith, my feeble faith, and bid me cling to Thee!"

I thought it was a good one to remember, especially, the reminder to turn to Christ in every situation.
If you cling to Him, He holds you securely.

The Thorn by Martha Snell Nicholson

I heard this poem last night and it is very moving!

The Thorn

I stood a mendicant of God before His royal throne
And begged him for one priceless gift, which I could call my own.
I took the gift from out His hand, but as I would depart
I cried, “But Lord this is a thorn and it has pierced my heart.
This is a strange, a hurtful gift, which Thou hast given me.”
He said, “My child, I give good gifts and gave My best to thee.”
I took it home and though at first the cruel thorn hurt sore,
As long years passed I learned at last to love it more and more.
I learned He never gives a thorn without this added grace,
He takes the thorn to pin aside the veil which hides His face.

by Martha Snell Nicholson

I have been greatly challenged by this.
Am I willing to allow God to give me "a thorn"?
Are you?

An e-Sword word study!

E-Sword is a wonderful thing! After hearing some teaching on Holiness (i.e.: it is the basic law of the Temple, and God's people), I decided to do a word study and  it found 43 verses: (listed below).
The dictionary defines holiness as: "The state of being holy". It really means being separate and set apart.
It is so important that we live pure and holy lives that are well-pleasing to God. See the last verse (Hebrews 12:14) for proof of that! The only way we can live like that is by allowing the Holy Spirit to be in control of our lives. (Romans 3:23 says we've all sinned and come short of the glory of God). It's a blessed thing to remember that the Lord will keep us as His own treasured possession when we are completely surrendered to Him. We mustn't allow compromise to tempt us away to the ways of the world. We must keep our eyes fixed on Him in His Beauty and Glory!  It's all quite fascinating isn't it!

Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
(Exodus 15:11) (YES, HE IS SO GLORIOUS!!)

And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
(Exodus 28:36)

And they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote upon it a writing, like to the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
(Exodus 39:30)

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
(1 Chronicles 16:29) (REMEMBER: GOD SAYS HOLINESS IS BEAUTIFUL!)

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.
(2 Chronicles 20:21)

And to the genealogy of all their little ones, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, through all the congregation: for in their set office they sanctified themselves in holiness:
(2 Chronicles 31:18)

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
(Psalms 29:2)

Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
(Psalms 30:4)

God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.
(Psalms 47:8)

A Song and Psalm for the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
(Psalms 48:1)

God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
(Psalms 60:6) (HE IS SO "OTHER", SO DIFFERENT THAN ANYTHING AND ANYONE ELSE!)

Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
(Psalms 89:35)

Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever.
(Psalms 93:5)

O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.
(Psalms 96:9)

Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
(Psalms 97:12)

God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
(Psalms 108:7)

Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
(Psalms 110:3)

And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.
(Isaiah 23:18)

And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.
(Isaiah 35:8)

But they that have gathered it shall eat it, and praise the LORD; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts of my holiness.
(Isaiah 62:9)

Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where is thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained?
(Isaiah 63:15)

The people of thy holiness have possessed it but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The LORD bless thee, O habitation of justice, and mountain of holiness.

(Obadiah 1:17)

In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD'S house shall be like the bowls before the altar.
(Zechariah 14:20)

Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.
(Zechariah 14:21)

Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
(Malachi 2:11)

In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
(Luke 1:75) (CAN YOU OR I HONESTLY SAY THAT WE'RE HOLY AND RIGHTEOUS EVERY DAY?)

And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?
(Acts 3:12)

And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
(Romans 1:4)

I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
(Romans 6:19)

But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
(Ephesians 4:24)

To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
(Hebrews 12:14) (ASK JESUS FOR HIS HOLINESS TO BE MANIFESTED IN YOUR LIFE: IT WILL MEAN DEATH TO SELF, A DENYING OF YOUR RIGHTS, BUT HE IS SO WORTH IT!!!!)

On the same theme: Here is a lovely song about it:

Isaiah 26:4

Here's an interesting "God-incidence". On 5 July, the "Verse a Day" was
Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength. Isaiah 26:4
and it also cropped up in at least 2 other places on the same day, on Twitter, and in Spurgeon's "Evening by Evening". I guess God really wanted me to sit up and take notice when He said something 3 times in one day! I'm still trying to work out exactly why I needed to be reminded of this 3 times.
Can you think of any times in your life where God has spoken the same thing so often? He often seems to repeat things many times for me (I obviously don't take it in easily the first time!) It's so good to remember He is so Faithful and enduringly strong.

Robert Murray M'Cheyne

Here are a few great quotes from Robert Murray M'Cheyne:
I hope you're as blessed by them as I was!!

"Live near to God, and all things will appear little to you in comparison with eternal realities."

"Unfathomable oceans of grace are in Christ for you. Dive and dive again, you will never come to the bottom of these depths. How many millions of dazzling pearls and gems are at this moment hid in the deep recesses of the ocean caves."

"Our soul should be a mirror of Christ; we should reflect every feature: for every grace in Christ there should be a counterpart in us."

"You will be incomplete Christians if you do not look for the coming again of the Lord Jesus"

"One gem from that ocean is worth all the pebbles from earthly streams."    [speaking of the Scriptures]

"Set NOT your hearts on the flowers of this world. They shall fade and die. Prize the Rose of Sharon and the Lily of the Valley. He changes not! Live nearer to Christ than to any person on this earth; so that when they are taken, you may have Him to love and lean upon."

Excerpt from Traveling toward sunrise June 29th.

Ere thou sleepest, gently lay
Every troubled thought away;
Put away worry and distress
As thou puttest off thy dress.
Drop thy burden and thy care
In the quiet arms of prayer.
Lord, thou knowest how I live;
All I've done amiss forgive,
All the good I've tried to do
Strengthen, bless and carry through,
All I love in safety keep
While in Thee I fall asleep.

I thought this was another really nice poem to share with you all.
Enjoy!
