"Let Him have His way with thee."

"Would you live for Jesus, and be always pure and good?
Would you walk with Him within the narrow road?
Would you have Him bear your burden, carry all your load?
Let Him have His way with thee.

Refrain: His pow’r can make you what you ought to be; His blood can cleanse your heart and make you free; His love can fill your soul, and you will see ’Twas best for Him to have His way with thee.

Would you have Him make you free, and follow at His call?
Would you know the peace that comes by giving all?
Would you have Him save you, so that you need never fall?
Let Him have His way with thee.

Would you in His kingdom find a place of constant rest?
Would you prove Him true in providential test?
Would you in His service labour always at your best?
Let Him have His way with thee."

Written by Cyrus S. Nusbaum in 1898.

"This hymn was based on experiences in his first year as a Methodist minister in Kansas. Nusbaum had been serving in one of the poorest circuits in the district. At the end of the year, he and his wife attended the conference where he hoped to be appointed to a better charge. However, he was named to the same “hard-scrabble” circuit. After returning to their lodging, he was at first unhappy and even felt rebellious, but about midnight he knelt in prayer and told the Lord that he would be willing to let Him have His way with him regardless of the cost. That feeling of surrender later became the inspiration for the song."

I just read the hymn in a Tozer book. Thanks for the recommendation S!
I think it's beautiful!
And I love this rendition of it.

If...

Jesus presents us with a choice.
Will you follow and serve Him?
Or do you insist on doing things your own way?
Even though it's so obvious that His way is going to be far better than ours could ever be, sometimes we still have doubts, and don't trust His plan.
Let's choose to remember that His plans are higher than ours and that He really does know what He is doing.
Let Him have His way.
It really is the best way!
He even promised that the Father will honour those who serve Him!

Personalized truths from yesterday's sermon

I need to remember these truths:
I need to follow Christ and obey the Father.
I should be living to glorify Him, no matter what it costs me!
His sheep follow Him because they know His voice.
I should be willing to be mocked and ridiculed, because, if I'm living like Jesus, I won't fit in with the world.
I can and should trust God fully because He is faithful!
I need to respond when God speaks to me.
Yes, the narrow way is difficult, but it leads to Life.

Let me not sink

Here is a poem I heard years ago, and then I read it again the other day. It's a challenging one.

Make Me Thy Fuel

From prayer that asks that I may be
Sheltered from winds that beat on Thee,
From fearing when I should aspire,
From faltering when I should climb higher,
From silken self, O Captain, free
Thy soldier who would follow Thee.

From subtle love of softening things,
From easy choices, weakenings,
(Not thus are spirits fortified,
Not this way went the crucified)
From all that dims Thy Calvary,
O Lamb of God, deliver me.

Give me the love that leads the way,
The faith that nothing can dismay,
The hope no disappointments tire,
The passion that will burn like fire;
Let me not sink to be a clod:
Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God.
