Guess what I did this afternoon!

We had a walk up Scout Scar near Kendal and found quite a lot of fossils. I'm always amazed by God's creative genius. My nephew and I in particular, love finding fossils. We came back with probably at least 20 rocks. I really enjoyed it. We found some pretty interesting specimens!!

Sweetness

"Some day of days, some dawning yet to be,
I shall be clothed with immortality;
And in that day I shall not greatly care
That Jane spilt candle-grease upon the stair.
It will not vex me then, as once it did,
That careless hands have chipped my teapot lid;
So for that day I lay me at Thy feet,
Then keep me sweet, my Saviour, keep me sweet."
by Fay Inchfawn

I thought this was a really great reminder of the necessity to keep our speech sweet. I've been challenged by this quite a lot lately! Sometimes, I think its best just to slap my hand over my mouth before anything "un-edifying" can come out!

"...sound speech that cannot be condemned" Titus 2:8

 "Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one." Colossians 4:6

"...speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,  giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." Ephesians 5:19+20.

"If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything!"

Thoughts anyone??

An excerpt from a sermon by Spurgeon

If he forgive thee, all thy transgressions shall be as though they had never been. He will make clean work of it, blotting out every record of thy sin, so that in God’s book there shall be no grieving memory of thy having been a sinner at all. So powerful is the atoning blood that all manner of sin and transgression shall be forgiven unto men for its sake. Sins against a holy God, sins against Christ’s love and blood, sins against conscience, sins against the law, sins against the gospel, sins which have lain in your bones from your youth up, sins of your middle age, sins of your old age, aggravated sins, black sins, damnable sins, all are gone when he saith, “I have blotted out thy sins like a cloud, and as a thick cloud thy transgressions.”

From a sermon by Charles Haddon Spurgeon entitled "A Prince And A Savior," delivered June 25, 1876.

What a great reminder!!
