"Christ Exalted, Saints Comforted, and Sinners Directed" 1855

𝗠𝗬 𝗥𝗨𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗥𝗘! My ruling desire is to be wholly given up to the Lord and to His work, and to show forth His praises from day to day. But when I aim at this most--I am baffled, opposed, and always hindered! I see what is wrong, but cannot avoid it. I see what is right, but cannot attain unto it. I know what I wish, but I cannot enjoy it. I read what God commands, but I cannot perform it. In the midst of all, I bless God . . .    for Jesus Christ,    for free grace,    for a full salvation,    for abiding comfort,    for a good hope,    for sweet views of Jesus,    for a glorious inheritance,    for an assurance of victory, and    for the promise of eternal triumph! Nothing can . . .   separate me from Jesus,   turn the current of His love from me, or   change the purposes of His grace for me. His love is astonishing! His ways are marvelous! I change; He remains ...

Another poem by Robert M. Mccheyne &...

"When Israel knew not where to go, God made the fiery pillar glow; By night, by day, above the camp It led the way - their guiding lamp; Such is Thy Holy Word to me In day of dark perplexity. When devious paths before me spread, And all invite my foot to tread I hear Thy voice behind me say - "Believing soul, this is the way, Walk thou in it." O gentle Dove, How much Thy holy law I love! My lamp and light In the dark night. When Paul amid the seas seemed lost By Adrian billows wildly tossed, When neither sun nor star appeared, And every wave its white head reared Above the ship, beside his bed An angel stood, and "Fear not" said. Such is Thy holy word to me, When tossed upon afflictions's sea; When floods come in unto my soul, And the deep waters o'er me roll, With angel voice Thy Word draws near And says, "Tis I, why shouldst thou fear? Through trouble great My saints must go Into their rest, where neither woe Nor sin can come; where every tear Fr...

A precious truth in poem form.

I came across this and hope it will encourage you as much as it encourages me. This was written in 1932 by a pastor in Mississippi named A. M. Overton, who had a wife and three small children. His wife was pregnant with their fourth child but when it came time for delivery, there were complications and both she and the baby died. During the funeral service, the preacher officiating the service noticed my grandfather writing something on a piece of paper. After the service the minister asked him about it, and he handed him the paper with a poem he had just written which he titled, “He Maketh No Mistake” He Maketh No Mistake "My Father’s way may twist and turn, my heart may throb and ache. But in my soul I’m glad I know, He maketh no mistake. My cherished plans may go astray, my hopes may fade away, but still I’ll trust my Lord to lead, for He doth know the way. Tho’ night be dark and it may seem that day will never break; I’ll pin my faith, my all in Him, He maketh no mistake. Ther...

"Let Him have His way with thee."

Image
"Would you live for Jesus, and be always pure and good? Would you walk with Him within the narrow road? Would you have Him bear your burden, carry all your load? Let Him have His way with thee. Refrain: His pow’r can make you what you ought to be; His blood can cleanse your heart and make you free; His love can fill your soul, and you will see ’Twas best for Him to have His way with thee. Would you have Him make you free, and follow at His call?   Would you know the peace that comes by giving all?   Would you have Him save you, so that you need never fall?   Let Him have His way with thee. Would you in His kingdom find a place of constant rest?   Would you prove Him true in providential test?   Would you in His service labour always at your best?   Let Him have His way with...

Return to your rest

Image
I think this may be one of my favourite verses. Time and again I find great comfort in it. It's a great reminder for me that the Lord is so gracious and delights in dealing bountifully with His people. This is the only way to find true rest.  "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 Thank You Lord for dealing bountifully with me!

February 5th Streams in the Desert by Mrs C. Cowman.

So, it's a day early, but I loved this poem. " Ye shall not go out with haste (Isaiah 52:12). I do not believe that we have begun to understand the marvellous power there is in stillness. We are in such a hurry--we must be doing--so that we are in danger of not giving God a chance to work. You may depend upon it, God never says to us, "Stand still," or "Sit still," or "Be still," unless He is going to do something. This is our trouble in regard to our Christian life; we want to do something to be Christians when we need to let Him work in us. Do you know how still you have to be when your likeness is being taken? Now God has one eternal purpose concerning us, and that is that we should be like His Son; and in order that this may be so, we must be passive. We hear so much about activity, may be we need to know what it is to be quiet. --Crumbs Sit still, my daughter! Just sit calmly still! Nor deem these days--these waiting days--as ill! The ...

Excerpt from today's Checkbook of Faith

I read this in Spurgeon's Checkbook of Faith today, and it really blessed me. Hope you're blessed by it too. "Let us rest ourselves upon Him. He is our refuge, let us hide in Him; He is our strength, let us array ourselves with Him; He is our help, let us lean upon Him; He is our very present help, let us repose in Him now. We need not have a moment's care or an instant's fear. "The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge." C.H. Spurgeon
