Believing: Directing the Heart's attention to Jesus. Today's Renewed Day by Day Tozer devotional.

"Believing: Directing the Heart's attention to Jesus. And looking upon Jesus as He walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! John 1:36 The Hebrew epistle instructs us to run life's race "looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith," for faith is not a once-done act, but a continuous gaze of the heart at the Triune God! Believing, actually is directing the heart's attention to Jesus. It is lifting the mind to "behold the Lamb of God," and never ceasing that beholding for the rest of our lives. Distractions may hinder, but once the heart is committed to Him, after each brief excursion away from Him the attention will return again and rest upon Him like a wandering bird coming back to its window. I would emphasize this one committal, this one great volitional act which establishes the heart's intention to gaze forever upon Jesus. God takes this intention for our choice and makes what allowances He must for the thousand distraction...

More Tozer quotes and an A.B. Simpson hymn

"Light is available to all who seek. That is the secret. Those who seek God earnestly and desperately shall surely come into the glorious light of His presence." "Nobody was more intolerant than Jesus Christ was." A.W. Tozer "1 I have learned the wondrous secret Of abiding in the Lord; I have found the strength and sweetness Of confiding in His word; I have tasted life’s pure fountain, I am drinking of His blood, I have lost myself in Jesus, I am sinking into God.  Refrain: I’m abiding in the Lord, And confiding in His word, And I’m hiding, safely hiding, In the bosom of His love.  2 I am crucified with Jesus, And He lives and dwells in me, I have ceased from all my struggling, ’Tis no longer I but He; All my will is yielded to Him, And His Spirit reigns within, And His precious blood each moment Keeps me cleansed and free from sin. [Refrain] 3 All my cares I cast upon Him, And He bears them all away; All my fears and griefs I tell Him, All my ne...

A very short Tozer quote

I read this prayer today in a Tozer book and thought it worth sharing, so here it is: "I have sought Thee, O Lord, and have been confused by the false authorities that have authority over Thee. May my heart be rooted in Thy Word, O God, to such an extent that Thy truth is ever precious to me.   In Jesus' name. Amen."

3 great quotes - Mueller, Spurgeon, Tozer

"The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety." George Mueller To contend against Omnipotence is insanity – C H Spurgeon “The purpose of God is not to save men from hell; the purpose of God is to save them unto Christ-likeness.” A W Tozer Take some time to think about that! and think also about how amazing God is!

Some great quotes everyone should read! More will follow!

"Compare yourself only with Jesus." - A.W. Tozer "There is no place to hide except in the blood of the Lamb." - A.W. Tozer "True repentance shows itself in a thorough breaking off from sin. The life of a repentant person is altered. The course of their daily conduct is entirely changed. A new King reigns within their heart. They put off the old man. What God commands they now desire to practice; and what God forbids they now desire to avoid. They strive in all ways to keep clear of sin, to fight with sin, to war with sin, to get the victory over sin. They cease to do evil. They learn to do well. They break off sharply from bad ways and bad companions. They labor, however feebly, to live a new life. When a person does this, you have the fourth step in true repentance." ~ J.C. Ryle The Character and Intention of the Devil 12 Jul "There is a devil! We have a mighty invisible enemy always near us–one who never slumbers and never sleeps–one who is about ou...

More Tozer anyone?

"Importance of the Devotional Mood" "To establish our hearts in the devotional mood we must abide in Christ, walk in the Spirit, pray without ceasing and meditate on the Word of God day and night. Of course this implies separation from the world, renunciation of the flesh and obedience to the will of God as we are able to understand it. And what is the devotional mood? It is nothing else than constant awareness of God's enfolding presence, the holding of inward conversations with Christ and private worship of God in spirit and in truth. Public worship embraces the community of believers and is genuine only as the individuals who compose the company assemble in the mood of reverent devotion. Anything short of this is sheer formality and must surely be unacceptable to God." (page 116 of "The Set of the Sail") Well, there is definitely some food for thought there. Enjoy it!

Tozer's "Pursuit of God"

I read this today, and thought I would share it with you all. "Jesus calls us to His rest and meekness is His method. The meek man cares not at all who is greater than he, for he has long ago decided that the esteem of the world is not worth the effort. He develops toward himself a kindly sense of humour and learns to say, "Oh, so you have been overlooked? They have placed someone else before you? They have whispered that you are pretty small stuff after all? And now you feel hurt because the world is saying about you the very things you have been saying about yourself? Only yesterday, you were telling God that you were a nothing, a mere worm of the dust. Where is your consistency? Come on, humble yourself, and cease to care what men think." If you haven't read Tozer, its very worthwhile to do so! Enjoy. What a privilege to be one of God's beloved worms!
