Another challenging quote

Attributed to Amy Carmichael (but I came across a couple of variations, so I don't know which one is most authentic.)

Excerpts from "The Edges of His Ways"

"Before the winds that blow do cease, Teach me to dwell within Thy calm; Before the pain has passed in peace, Give me, my God, to sing a psalm, Let me not lose the chance to prove The fullness of enabling love. O Love of God, do this for me; Maintain a constant victory. Before I leave the desert land For meadows of immortal flowers, Lead me where streams at Thy command Flow by the borders of the hours, That when the thirsty come, I may Show them the fountains in the way. O Love of God, do this for me; Maintain a constant victory." "Sometimes in the midst of the rush of things, it seems impossible always to be victorious, always to be peaceful, always to be inwardly sweet. Is that not so? Yet that and nothing less is our high calling."

Tozer quote and Amy Carmichael devotionals

"Following Christ is both easy and hard. It is hard because the ways of God and the ways of man are not equal. Man has his philosophies, techniques and methodologies and is directly opposed to the ways of God. It is easy because Jesus Christ has prevailed and is worthy to rule from the throne . (AMEN!!) If we serve God in man's way, we will make a mess of it..."  Tozer. Job 22:29 "When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, "There is a lifting up." Eliphaz the Temanite said many unkind and untrue things. But he sometimes spoke truly, and this is a beautiful word of his: "When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is a lifting up". The people of God never should be cast down, never need be, and yet our Father knows that sometimes we are badly tempted in this way, "for He knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust." I have noticed that in every age He has appointed some to say, There is a lifting up. Their lives say it....

Let me not sink

Here is a poem I heard years ago, and then I read it again the other day. It's a challenging one. Make Me Thy Fuel From prayer that asks that I may be Sheltered from winds that beat on Thee, From fearing when I should aspire, From faltering when I should climb higher, From silken self, O Captain, free Thy soldier who would follow Thee. From subtle love of softening things, From easy choices, weakenings, (Not thus are spirits fortified, Not this way went the crucified) From all that dims Thy Calvary, O Lamb of God, deliver me. Give me the love that leads the way, The faith that nothing can dismay, The hope no disappointments tire, The passion that will burn like fire; Let me not sink to be a clod: Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God.         by Amy Carmichael

Leave it to me, Child, Leave it to me.

Leave it to me, Child, leave it to Me, Dearer thy garden to me than to thee, Lift up thy heart, Child, lift up thine eyes, Naught can defeat Me, naught can surprise. Leave it to me, Child, leave it to Me, Trust in the Wall of Fire, look up and see Stars in their courses shine through the night Both are alike to me -- darkness and light. Leave it to me, Child, leave it to me, Let stop the burden too heavy for thee. That which I will, My Hand shall perform, Fair are the lilies that weather the storm. By Amy Carmichael (Written after a storm had threatened to ruin her garden, but rather "washed" it. The flowers that came through the storm were more beautiful afterwards. She remembered then that her garden of beloved children were even dearer to God than to her. She would trust Him to perfect them.) I heard this as a song the other day, and it's been going round in my head ever since! How lovely to know that we can trust God and leave it all to Him.
