"The Loveliness of Christ" excerpts from Samuel Rutherford

One of my birthday presents this year was a lovely little book called "The Loveliness of Christ" by Samuel Rutherford. Here is the first of probably many quotes from his letters.

"There is as much in our Lord's pantry as will satisfy all his bairns, and as much wine in his cellar as will quench all their thirst. Hunger on; for there is meat in hunger for Christ; go never from him, but fash him (who yet is pleased with the importunity of hungry souls) with a dishful of hungry desires, till he fill you; and if he delay yet come not ye away, albeit ye should fall a-swoon at his feet."

Of course that brings to mind Matthew 5:6; I like the way the KJV and the NASB put it:

New American Standard Bible
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."
King James Bible
"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."

and when I looked that up, it linked to one of my favourite verses: Psalm 107:9
"...for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things."

and this verse that "jumped out" at me this morning: Jeremiah 31:25
"I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint."

How good our God is to satisfy and fill us!
